On February 10, 2015, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office published 12 mobile and/or Smart Phone brand names prior to the Barcelona Mobile World Congress trade show. Samsung originally filed for the trademarks on February 5.
While there were actually 13 trademarks filed, the first one noted as "S-MBIR" is for a "Computerized tomography (CT) apparatus; computerized tomography (CT) scanners; computerized axial tomography (CAT) apparatus. The remaining 12 are noted as being relating to mobile and/or smart phone potential brand names.
In January Samsung filed for a series of 13 new trademarks relating to the Galaxy Brand.
