Today, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Samsung a design patent for a new and interesting tablet. Samsung introduces us to an all-new tablet button that is likely a physical camera button for easy selfie photo taking.
Unlike "patent applications," design patents published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office don't reveal pertinent information about a particular design. We can look at the design and appreciate it for what it projects, but we'll never discover which materials may be used to construct the design. We'll never know what unique internal components may be hidden within the device or learn about any unique features that we could look forward to. All we get is the simple visual of what could be coming down the pipeline.
Today's newly granted design patent for a new Samsung tablet is a classic example of the design filing being void of facts. The new design clearly sports an-all-new button found at the bottom right corner of the tablet's face side. There's a cover over the tablet's face in FIG. 1. What functionality will this button provide? Unfortunately design patents don't reveal individual features. Yet it could be a physical camera button with the second mystery slot being a new flash configuration on the face side for better selfies.

In Samsung's design patent FIG. 8 noted below we're able to see the tablet cover pulled up and the tablet beneath exposed.
Whether the protective cover is permanently attached to the back of the tablet is unknown though patent FIG. 9 appears to show that it is. To create a strong supported slanted stand for the tablet with only a single fold would be another clue that the cover is attached. The filing sheds no light on the matter.
