Samsung was granted eight design patents today for a 'Spaceship-like" drone. Our report will only provide you with patent figures from one of the eight as all eight are closely similar.
While collectively the patents cover one form factor, Samsung decided to ensure that every aspect of the design is protected under the law. They purposely filed eight patents with each one focusing on a single specific feature that the others didn't.
In 2018 Samsung was granted two design patents for drones that look like you typical consumer drone device (see 01 & 02). A third design patent presented a form factor that was their first to take on the look of a flying-saucer. The design hid the rotary blades within the device.
Today's granted design patents continue with this theme of hiding the rotary blades. It's a slicker form factor to begin with while providing the owner with an added measure of safety when using the device around other humans and pets in public.
Unlike "patent applications" that provide the public with an abstract, summary and details of an invention, design patents published around the world are limited to only providing the public with the design patent figures provided by the inventor(s). No additional specifics of the design are made available. Below are design figures for a Samsung Drone
With 11 drone design patents to their credit over the last 12 months, it would seem that Samsung is taking this project very seriously. Will Samsung take the leap and make this device a Galaxy phone or tablet accessory? While it looks promising on paper, only time will tell.
