On June 12, Samsung filed for the trademark "Samsung Gear VR" under the single International Class 009 which covers the following:

Samsung was granted a design patent for "Glasses" back in March 2014 which covered the patent figure below, and filed for a patent regarding a "wrist band and bangle" just last week. Lastly, One of Samsung's patents regarding a Holographic styled Interface also notes that "A technique according to some example embodiments of inventive concepts may combine a three-dimensional visualization and interaction technique to achieve perfect fusion between a virtual reality and a physical reality." Will achieving this effect require glasses? Only time will tell.
Unlike other Android sites that jumped to conclusions that the new trademark for "Samsung Gear VR" likely meant an Ocular Rift or Ocular VR-styled device, the fact is that Samsung's trademark filing didn't note a Head Mounted Display or HMD but rather "glasses."
The other two Samsung trademark's filed this month cover Samsung product colors "Titanium Bronze" under application number 86298796 and "Glam Red" under application number 86298794.
